TOTO Ltd. (HQ: Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan, president: Madoka Kitamura) wonthe Green Product/Graphic Design Award, one of
the categories of the world-class GREEN GOOD DESIGN Awards 2018, for “WASHLET” equipped with EWATER+ (including
seat toilet and integrated toilet). The award is given to a product with an environmentally friendly design and innovative
technology. It was the third time for TOTO to win this award after 2015 and 2016.
The GREEN GOOD DESIGN Awards are an international environment award with the goal of enhancing the awareness of people in the
world toward the environment by evaluating excellent environmentally friendly designs that contribute to the development of sustainable
designs. The special judges evaluate and give awards to governments, companies, or organizations, as well as individuals, such as
architects and designers, and individual products, architecture, and technology. WASHLET equipped with EWATER+ won the award because
the judges highly evaluated TOTO’s attitude toward manufacturing environmentally friendly products to achieve a sustainable society.
TOTO Group has established the TOTO Global Environmental Vision with the themes of environment, clean and comfortable, and
connections to people so as to contribute to the environment from kitchens, bathrooms, and toilets. We have been working on developing
clean technology under the TOTO Global Environmental Vision, and EWATER is one of the technologies that help achieve environmentally
friendly, clean, and comfortable living environments. EWATER contains a disinfectant (hypochlorous acid) derived from the electrolysis of
chloride ions in the WATER and is produced from water without using chemicals or detergents. Since EWATER returns to normal water in
several hours, it contributes to reducing the environmental load. TOTO has successfully achieved development of the technology to change
WATER properties so that disinfection effects can be demonstrated regardless of whether the WATER is hard or soft. The effects of this
technology were confirmed after repeated tests not only in Japan but also in many countries around the world by using tap water.
